The World is Yours

Tonight's quote is one posted by Shaun on Facebook and is from Ayn Rand's book Atlas Shrugged.

"Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it's yours."

I think this quote is meaningful both on the individual and national level. Anything is possible either in careers or in changing our government.

The Impossible

Everything is theoretically impossible, until it is done. ~ Robert Heinlein

Everything is possible, it just hasn't been done yet we can do awesome things if we try.

Fine Art

"The finest works of art are precious, among other reasons because they make it possible for us to know, if only imperfectly and for a little while, what it actually feels like to think subtly and feel noble"

~ Aldous Huxley

The artist when creating art besides putting forth his worldview in the art does these things by taking the time to make his art high quality. This is becoming less and less the case in art as much modern art is created with no worldview, or nihilism which is not a true worldview, and without quality in mind.

Individual Revolution

Ho Chi Minh was the leader of the Vietnamese revolution against France.

"We carry out the revolution with a view of transforming the world and society. To transform the world and society, we must first and foremost transform ourselves."

A revolution, much like a government, is not a living entity that creates ideas by itself. A revolution, and a government, are a collection of people who turn their ideas into action through a group effort.

Legalize Drugs

P.J. O'Rourke is a political writer, satirist and research fellow at the Cato Institute.

"No drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power"

Use of drugs are either tools of people who are greedy and want power or an escape for people who are stupid and ignorant. The government does nothing but waste our money attempting to cure the symptoms of social ills.

Art

Albert Camus was a French writer and philosopher from the 1950's he is best known for his two books "The Stranger" and "The Plague"

"There is not a single true work of art that has not in the end added to the inner freedom of each person who has known and loved it."

Camus was a life long opponent of nihilism and this goes hand in hand with this quote as art is, according to Ayn Rand, a selective re-creation of reality according to an artist's metaphysical value-judgments. Without values art is simply a re-creation of the reality and values the artist has created and it would be nearly impossible for others to be affected by it as they couldn't relate to it.

Revolutions

Aldous Huxley is best known for his book, Brave New World.

"The reformer must attack simultaneously on all the fronts, from the metaphysical to the economic; if he does not; he cannot hope to achieve more than a partial success."

If we simply pass laws that are expedient at the time and don't consider the ethical and moral reasons why we pass those laws then future generations will change the laws when it becomes expedient to them.

To Write

David McCullough is probably best known for his biography of John Adams that was later made into a min-series.

"The essence of writing is to know your subject." ~ David McCullough

I guess this is why my favorite genre to write is fantasy because I create the subject of my writing.
